Our Family Mental Health Support Service (Starfish Program) provides free early intervention and support to vulnerable families with children and young people who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of developing, mental illness.

About the role

We are seeking 3x Child, Youth and Family Counsellors to deliver individual, family and group responses that provide early intervention and therapeutic support to children, young people, and their families, early in a situation where mental health risk factors may be emerging. Based at our Deception Bay site, the Starfish team deliver a targeted outreach counselling service, therapeutic group work, and community education programs.

You will conduct assessments and provide counselling interventions using a range of therapeutic modalities, within a strengths-based, client centred, trauma and attachment informed, and culturally sensitive framework, for children and young people aged 0-18yrs and their families.

We have a full-time permanent position available as well as multiple permanent part-time opportunities!

About you

Successful candidates will bring:

• Relevant university level qualifications and will be eligible for professional registration with the Australian Counselling Association; Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia; or other relevant body
• Demonstrated experience working with a wide age range of children, including under 5’s, and comfort working with parents/carers
• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of client-centred practice and professional ethical standards, underpinned by strengths based, trauma, attachment, and systemic frameworks
• Demonstrated skills and experience in assessment, case formulation and planning, therapeutic interventions, and capacity to provide culturally appropriate counselling responses to clients

You will also enjoy and be confident in facilitating therapeutic /psycho-education group workshops.
