About the role

The Resilient Kids Program supports the resilience of young people in Far North Qld via Kids Helpline@School, Kids Helpline My Circles and an online Disaster Response Hub. It is a new program to help school-aged children gain skills in recognising mental health stress and knowing where to turn for help, specifically tailored to children and young people affected by traumatic events.

The Community Engagement Officer will formulate and implement strategies to engage and network with primary and high schools, community services and government stakeholders across 5 LGA’S in Far North Qld (Burketown, Carpentaria, Burdekin, Douglas and Etheridge), to successfully promote the program and ensure content is specific to the local context. As the public face of the Resilient Kids Program, this role will involve frequent travel throughout the service region to attend events, develop and maintain local networks and connections and enhance engagement.

Your role will include:

• represent and promote the Resilient Kids program as an avenue for help seeking for young people
• drive networking activities to increase collaboration and information sharing
• develop creative engagement strategies and develop a plan to promote the program to schools
• develop a visiting program across the service area
• provide a range of face to face and online engagement activities for students

This position will be appointed on a full time 6-month maximum term basis.

About you

You will have a genuine passion for networking and developing stakeholder connections to achieve positive outcomes for programs and clients. You will enjoy using your ability to think creatively to successfully plan and undertake engagement activities to source and attract target cohorts.

You will bring:

• demonstrated experience in community engagement within the community service sector
• Diploma level qualification in social sciences
• strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships across a variety of stakeholders including client cohorts, schools, government, community, and business groups
• solid understanding of strategies for engagement, including digital and online engagement
• ability to travel on a regular basis across Queensland
