Our Domestic and Family Violence Refuge is a welcoming haven for women and their children who have experienced the trauma of domestic/family violence. All refuge staff work towards assisting families to regain independence & safety following domestic and family violence.

The Women and Family Advocate provides individual, family and group support planning to women, young people and children who are accommodated at our Refuge. You will provide practical support and interventions to increase client’s safety and wellbeing during and post refuge through the lens of a multi-level practice framework in collaboration with the refuge team.

This is a permanent full time position, working a rotating shift work roster, 8am – 4pm one week and 10am to 6pm the next Monday to Friday and approx 1 Saturday in every three. You will also participate in the on-call roster.

About you:

You will have a Diploma level qualification in Social or Behavioural Sciences with at least 2 years direct experience in family and youth services, preferably with knowledge and skills in working with women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence. You will work within a clear client centred, trauma and attachment informed framework and have a demonstrated understanding of case management with assessment frameworks related to Child Protection, Parenting and Family Work, Family Violence, Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol issues. You will demonstrate a strong knowledge of current evidence-based practice, policies, legislation and trends relevant to domestic/family violence issues and possess excellent communication, conflict resolution and report writing skills along with the ability to impart knowledge.
