About the Role

YWCA Canberra has been selected to auspice the national women’s safety alliance to inform and support national policy on eliminating all forms of violence against women and children. We are recruiting the CEO for this national leadership role to establish and grow the influence and impact of the National Women's Safety Alliance. This role will be Canberra based.

The intended outcomes are that the National Women's Safety Alliance will:

  • Represent Australian women, including underrepresented women
  • Collaborate with policymakers to inform Government’s understanding of policy issues affecting Australian women's safety
  • Collaborate with policymakers to inform the development of policy solutions to issues affecting Australian women's safety.
  • Gather evidence to develop solutions to priority issues affecting Australian women

Reporting to the Chair of National Women’s Safety Alliance (NWSA) Governance Committee, the role will provide evidence-based policy advice on women’s safety. The role is responsible for deliverables against the Activity Work Plan approved by NWSA Governance Committee and day to day operations. In addition, this role will convene the NWSA Policy & Advocacy Advisory Committee and be the official spokesperson for the NWSA.

This will be an autonomous role with one direct report under the governance of YWCA Canberra, with significant stakeholder engagement.

About You

  • Expertise in gendered violence prevention and women’s safety
  • An experienced advocacy expert and spokesperson
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mechanisms of government and engaging with government representatives and Ministers
  • Experience in policy & strategy development
  • Experience in communications and media engagement
  • You would desirably have an established network of relevant relationships
  • Understanding of the national women's alliances
  • Strong collaboration and relationship building skills
  • Project Management experience
