ABOUT THIS ROLE
YWCA Australia is currently seeking a dedicated Case Worker to join our Housing Support Team. This role is offered on a part time basis (on a maximum term contract ending 17/12/2021) and is based in the Northern Suburbs of Darwin.
The Case Worker at CASY House supports young people in our 24-hour crisis accommodation facility as part of a youth work team. The Case Worker is responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive environment for young people, to resolve crisis needs and future planning through strength-based, trauma informed case plans.

- Contribute to and promote safe work practices that are consistent with YWCA’s policies and comply with WH&S legislation.
- Promote and actively support a safe and inclusive working environment that celebrates everyone’s uniqueness, including their race, gender identity, age, disability, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and experiences.
- Operate under a case work framework and provide strength-based support to clients residing at CASY House.
- Build respectful and trusting working relationships and work with young people to identify their needs, rights, strengths and opportunities.
- Deal with threatening or challenging youth behaviours and maintain safety through effective response to potential or actual critical situations.
- Participate in cleaning and food preparation as both a participant and role model and follow basic food safety practice.
- Clean and maintain surfaces, manage waste/recyclables and store equipment and cleaning agents in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and organisation policy.
- Coach and support young people with basic living skills.
- Maintain accurate client information and case notes on the SHIP database.
- Undertake other tasks as assigned by the manager.
The ideal applicant we are seeking will have:
- A demonstrated passion for social change and contributing to an organisation that advocates for equality.
- Strong supporter of Women’s Rights and striving for equality through influencing, advocating and pushing boundaries.
- Demonstrated collaborative working style, with good interpersonal and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to manage competing demands.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds and linguistic needs.
- Demonstrated experience advocating and supporting young people.
- Understanding of the responsibilities associated with working with young people including, confidentiality, duty of care, relevant legislation and professional conduct.
- Ability to respond appropriately to threatening or challenging youth behaviours, and actively listen, negotiate and resolve conflict in accordance with organisation procedures and requirements.
- Understanding of the complex issues relating to youth homelessness, particularly youth in crisis.
- Strong supporter of Women’s Rights and willing to push the boundaries.
- Team player who is approachable with strong interpersonal and listening skills together with the ability to empower.
- Results focused, self-motivated and a self-starter who goes above and beyond.
- Doesn’t settle, strives for continues improvement and has a high level of integrity.
- A valid state-based working with children or working with vulnerable people check.
- This position will require the applicant to satisfactorily complete a national criminal history record check and hold the relevant state-based working with vulnerable persons permit prior to employment
