<h3>ABOUT THE ROLE</h3>
<p>An exciting position is available developing and implementing the Banksia Gardens Estate Bicycle Program<strong>, </strong>engaging young people at the Banksia Gardens Estate with bicycle repairs, maintenance and upgrades.</p>
<p>Key responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Bicycle Mechanics/Maintenance
<ul>
<li>Set up a low budget bicycle repair workshop - sourcing tools, materials and equipment</li>
<li>Maintain a safe, clean and tidy workspace</li>
<li>Keep track of stock</li>
<li>Source and repair donated bicycles</li>
<li>Share knowledge of bicycle repairs and maintenance with a young cohort</li>
</ul>

<li>Community and Youth Engagement
<ul>
<li>Listen to and build rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds,</li>
<li>Socialising and engaging with a diverse cohort of residents from the Banksia Gardens Estate.</li>
<li>Develop and deliver youth-focused bicycle workshops and activities</li>
<li>Be ready to activate ideas from community members, even if they are not related to the bicycle program.</li>

<li>Organising Community and Social Events
<ul>
<li>Set up activities</li>
<li>Allocate tasks to volunteers, staff and participants</li>
<li>Food ordering/preparation may be involved for community events</li>
</ul>

<h3>ABOUT YOU!</h3>
<p>We are looking for a bicycle mechanic with community engagement skills. Qualifications in youth work, community development, or similar fields is desirable but not required. Experience working with highly disenfranchised children and families will also be favourably considered.</p>
<ul>
<li>You are excellent with bikes! You can source, repair, upgrade and tinker with bicycles and bicycle tools.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>You are an energetic, people person who can build a strong rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds or who have had challenging life experiences.</li>
<li>You are able to work collaboratively within a team delivering high-quality engagement programs in a fast paced, dynamic setting.</li>
<li>You are committed to creating a safe space for the community to gather, learn and share new skills.</li>

<p>An exciting position is available in our Community Development Team, working on two projects:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Community Connections</strong> is a place-based community development initiative focused on the Banksia Gardens Housing Estate, a local social housing estate (public housing with a number of transitional housing properties) with 134 residences and over 500 residents. The Community Connections project works with local residents to build a stronger, more engaged and more empowered community by running community events, supporting resident lead initiatives, meeting local need through activities and programs, amplifying the community&rsquo;s voice and supporting and advocating for individuals.</li>
<li><strong>Social Cohesion Through Education (SCTE)</strong> program at Banksia Gardens supports diversity, increases cross cultural and global understanding and enhances social cohesion within local school communities in Hume. Banksia Gardens partners with local schools, forming a community of practice to develop strategies and share resources and support, enhancing partnerships with families, community leaders and cultural groups. The SCTE team develops programming and content which specifically targets the needs of individual school communities. Some past initiatives include: inter-school events, cultural events, sport programs, creative workshops and more.</li>
</ul>
<h3>ABOUT THE ROLE</h3>
<p style="margin-right: -2.3pt;">The Community Development and Social Cohesion Worker position will work across two programs (Community Connections and Social Cohesion Through Education) and will work closely with the team leader to develop and deliver on action plans to meet the program objectives. The Community Development and Social Cohesion Worker will use community development principles to support the local community and individual support work skills to respond to the individual needs of local residents and provide information, advice and referral as well as some case work.</p>
