54 Reasons - Save the Children

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families across the Mount Isa region? As part of our Intensive Bail Initiative Team, you'll be part of a wrap-around service that supports the families of young people who have come into contact with the youth justice system.

In this varied and challenging role, you'll help give families the tools they need to thrive. We understand that in developing effective working partnerships it is a 'two-way street', so we offer a practice model that respectfully engages clients and provides peer support for the practitioners.

54 reasons is Australia's leading child rights organisation - no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we're here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child's voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities. From our programs to our support services - this is the place to realise your purpose.

A place to make a difference:

In this full-time, maximum term role (through to end of September 2025, with potential for extension), you'll join our Intensive Bail Initiative team in Mount Isa. You'll work closely alongside external stakeholders to increase and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children, and will be contributing to our ultimate goals of assisting young people to meet the conditions of their bail, decreasing the number of children and young people being remanded in custody, and reducing youth reoffending.

You will make a difference by:

  • Working with the families of young people involved in the youth justice system through intensive case work, follow-up and referrals to other specialist services
  • Ensuring the voices of children and young people are heard
  • Identifying strengths, establishing goals for the program, and reviewing client progress towards these goals
  • Providing holistic case management, delivering support to vulnerable and disadvantaged families
  • Identifying strengths, establishing goals for the program and reviewing progress

A place to feel valued:

Your deep expertise in working alongside families to achieve agreed outcomes will be invaluable. Your highly developed cultural awareness and sensitivity, partnered with excellent communication skills, will enable you to build community networks and lasting relationships. You're resilient, not afraid of a challenge, and importantly you're comfortable working in remote and rural settings.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience in case management and knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly the youth justice system
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families
  • Strong report writing, analytical and evaluation skills, including data collation and analysis
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or significant experience working in a similar service

A place to belong:

At 54 reasons, we invest in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 600 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.
