About the Role

Our highly respected News team is seeking a Digital Specialist, Climate to join us in January 2024. In this new role, you will create digital-first, innovative content as well as providing advanced production support to bolster climate news coverage for all ABC digital platforms.

Liaising with various stakeholders and the Editor, you will:

  • Deliver digital-first, trusted and impactful journalism, with an audience-centred approach.
  • Research, develop, report, and produce content for social and emerging platforms to meet new audiences where they are.
  • Support production of climate stories; making calls, setting up interviews, conducting research, scripting, and editing.
  • Contribute to editorial meetings as required, suggesting ideas, leads and angles.
  • Push innovation, keep abreast of advances and developments in the digital space, be across audience insights and metrics.
  • Maintain an understanding of climate News, events, and issues, monitoring a wide range of media outlets/sources
  • Develop and foster a network of contacts and sources.

About You

You will have advanced experience in writing and producing/reporting in News and Current Affairs across platforms with sound editorial judgement and first-class sub-editing skills. You are organised, deadline driven and flexible in your approach to collaborating with colleagues.

To be successful in the role, you have:

  • Demonstrated high level ability to plan, gather and produce strong cross media editorial content clearly and accurately in accordance with ABC Editorial Policies, Style Guides, and legal advice.
  • Excellent organisation, planning and communication skills, and ability to meet production deadlines.
  • A sound understanding of the ABC News strategy, audience insights and data to inform commissioning and prioritise stories for platforms.
  • Highly advanced experience using social media to News gather, research, and connect to audiences.
  • Significant experience in the use of multimedia editing and production systems and an understanding of emerging technologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of people across the ABC and assist in building team relationships with international colleagues.
