the opportunity

The Party Director is the senior staff member of the Party. The Party Director oversees a small office of 3-6 staff, depending on the election cycle. The Party Director provides recommendations, advice and support to the Party’s Management Committee. This work underpins the Management Committee’s strategic planning, decision making, legal and financial responsibilities, and leadership of the Party. The Party Director is also a member, advisor, facilitator or convenor of some of the Party’s fora, as required.

We are looking for someone who shares the values of the ACT Greens and wants to help us deliver on our ambition to build a better normal in the ACT. We are looking for someone with:

  • Manages the day-to-day operation and administration of the Party
  • Provides strategic, management and financial information and advice to the Management Committee, other committees, working groups, staff, and Party representatives
  • Implements decisions of the Management Committee and the Party’s Forum
  • Supports the Management Committee to identify and manage risks
  • Develops and implements, projects, policies, and procedures
  • Supervises and guides ACT Greens office staff and volunteers
  • Manages operational and financial systems
  • Participates as a full member of the Party’s Campaign Team
  • Liaises with the offices of elected representatives, the Australian Greens and other state and territory greens parties

Key competencies

  • High level written and oral communications skills
  • High level interpersonal skills (e.g., emotional intelligence, empathy and listening skills) as well as conflict resolution/mediation skills
  • Leadership and management experience including demonstrated experience in change management, project management, process improvement, risk management and financial management
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated track record working with and through stakeholders to achieve outcomes
  • Commitment to the ACT Greens values, policies, and decision-making processes
  • Strong IT skills including the ability to effectively use Google Office, Microsoft Office, social media, databases, and web-based applications
  • Experience working with a member based political Party, NGO or other incorporated association including interacting with and providing guidance to senior committees
  • Demonstrated understanding of project and change management, process improvement and risk evaluation and management

Desirable skills and experience

  • Knowledge of CiviCRM, Rocket and gVIRS systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with best-practice voter contact techniques and experience training volunteers in these techniques
  • Experience with fundraising
  • Experience in online campaigning
