Organisational Context
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is the largest aid, employment, health and advocacy organisation for people seeking asylum in Australia. The ASRC provides a range of direct services as well as participating in law reform, campaigning and lobbying.
ASRC Innovation Hub
The ASRC Innovation Hub creates pathways to self-determination and empowerment for people seeking asylum, through enabling access to education and employment. The Innovation Hub comprises of interdependent programs: the Empowerment Pathways Programs, Education Program, Employment Program, Entrepreneurs Program, and two social enterprises (ASRC Cleaning and ASRC Catering). Hub members, volunteers, staff and stakeholders work in collaborative and innovative ways to maximise the social and economic participation of people seeking asylum.
Specific Duties
The Hub Triage Coordinator will be responsible for undertaking the following duties:
- Needs assessment, triage and referral
- Work from a member-centred, strengths based approach using empowerment principles
- Provide high level assessment, triage and case coordination for Hub members presenting with particularly complex needs or challenging circumstances and determine the appropriate intervention specific to programs that support their journey to thriving.
- Identify appropriate service and support pathways for individuals who are experiencing barriers to engagement with Hub programs, and coordinate referrals both internally and externally of the ASRC (e.g. ASRC Client Services, SRSS providers)
- Oversee case coordination for members concurrently accessing multiple ASRC programs for consistent and cohesive service delivery (e.g. housing/employment)
- Secondary consultation and resource development
- Provide secondary consultation and support to Hub staff and volunteers to identify individuals with vulnerabilities and barriers to engagement
- Deliver training to build the capacity of all staff and volunteers in Hub triage (e.g. in responding to challenging behaviours)
- Develop tools and resources for Hub staff and volunteers
- Stakeholder engagement
- Maintain a referral database and build strong relationships with services that work with people seeking asylum in and around metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria
- Develop relationships of trust with both internal and external stakeholders
- Work closely with Hub programs and external service providers to deliver accurate information to the appropriate team member or program, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Relevant qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Community Services or a related discipline, with 3 years minimum work experience in the refugee and asylum seeker sector
- In-depth knowledge of the service landscape for people seeking asylum, and the ability to advocate on behalf of members to effectively negotiate access to services and relevant agencies (e.g. health, welfare, legal, trauma counselling, crisis accommodation)
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including cross-cultural communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in case planning and caseload management, including providing support to individuals with complex and/or high-level needs
- Proven organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work flow and competing demands
- Demonstrated ability to work sensitively and inclusively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Proficiency in the use of computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and client information management systems
Desirable:
- Experience in building, managing and working within effective teams
- The ability to identify and establish strong stakeholder relationships and partnerships
- Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation processes
Conditions of Employment
Terms and conditions of employment will be based on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 or its successor agreements.
