DEPARTMENT

Alfred Mental and Addiction Health is responsible for the operation of services, which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne. The Alfred Mental and Addictions Health team on the inpatient unit in Alfred hospital consists of Social work, nursing, occupational therapists, psychologists, art and music therapy, consultant psychiatrists and medical staff.

POSITION

The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision and leadership of social work services, particularly in managing complex cases, and clinical development within the Alfred Psychiatry Acute Program. Teaching, education and implementation of research and quality improvement activities for the clinical specialty are also important components of the role. You will be expected to contribute to the ongoing professional development of Social Work staff and demonstrate a commitment to evidence based practice. As the successful applicant you will work within the Acute Inpatient Units undertaking both a direct clinical role and a Leadership, Administrative, Strategic and Supervisory role. To be successful in your application you will hold a Bachelor of Social Work or the equivalent and have demonstrated skills and knowledge in the provision of complex social work services within an acute health care environment.

This position offers a great opportunity for a Grade 2 Social Worker who is seeking clinical leadership experience. If successful they will be supported in this role to acquire relevant training and supervision to develop the leadership skills required to fulfill the SW3 position

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Eligibility for membership of AASW (Australian Association of Social Workers).
  • Bachelor of Social Work or recognised equivalent.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the provision of complex social work services within an acute health care environment

Desirable

  • Accredited mental health SW in accordance with AASW requirements
  • Master’s degree or working towards

Experience

  • 4-5 years Post Graduate exposure to complex case management in mental health
  • Acute mental health experience
  • Senior responsibilities
