Role intent

We are looking for someone to support our senior ecologist in Melbourne.

This role relies on your ability to transfer ecological principles into design solutions. A key measurement of success is your ability to apply your commerciality, creativity and communication skills to the role.

Our business is known for innovative solutions to environmental issues surrounding rivers, wetlands and catchments. The successful candidate will need to be able to build an ecological vision into these projects and then translate that with effective communication into practical outputs.

What you’ll be doing in this role:

• Working with our engineers, scientists and economists on environmental restoration projects
• Undertaking field assessments to support projects
• Manage a portfolio of projects
• Spend about 20% of your time on non-project work e.g. contributing to bidding and knowledge transfer across the various Alluvium companies
• Presenting your work in industry forums and undertaking professional development

What skills you need to bring to the role:

• Tertiary qualifications in ecology or similar
• Demonstrated knowledge of ecological systems and processes
• High level flora knowledge, especially grassland and wetland flora of south-east Australia
• Sound knowledge of conservation and environmental legislative and regulatory requirements
• On ground experience of applying those skills in restoration projects
• Great writing skills and the ability to tell a story
• Computer literacy including the Microsoft Office suite
• 5 years of professional experience
• An understanding of multidisciplinary projects

Other desirable skills and experience:

• Prior experience in professional services consulting
• Intermediate or advanced GIS skills
• Knowledge of theoretical and management tools (NaturePrint etc)
• Experience in ecological impact assessments
• Established networks

Time requirement

We anticipate the role would will be full time but we are open to creative solutions.
