National Photography Network Lead (Voluntary) - Flexible Location

Amnesty International Australia

This is an exciting volunteer opportunity to help lead and manage our amazing National Photography Network made up of volunteer photographers who help capture content at Amnesty International Australia (AIA) staff and activist-led events. This volunteer role can be performed from anywhere in Australia.

As the AIA National Photography Network Lead, you’ll use your organising and administrative skills to manage and support our team of volunteer photographers. You’ll work collaboratively with our Multimedia Producer to identify content gathering opportunities, assign those opportunities to appropriate members of the National Photography Network and support network members as they capture amazing photos that will help us demonstrate the impact we are having on the ground.

As the National Photography Network Lead, some of your main responsibilities will include

  • Attending training sessions to develop a deeper understanding of Amnesty International Australia’s work, our messaging and branding
  • Recruiting and managing of AIA’s National Photography Network, including maintaining the inbox and scheduling meetings
  • Identifying and assigning content gathering opportunities
  • Working with the AIA Multimedia Producer to ensure volunteers are briefed for assignments
  • Ensuring the content collected by volunteers is delivered to AIA Multimedia Producer in a timely fashion

Our National Photography Network attended several events across the country last year and took some amazing photographs that have helped us attract and inspire more supporters to the work that we do challenging injustice. We’re excited to continue to grow and support the National Photography Network for an even busier 2023.

The perfect person for this role is someone who loves working with others, has great administrative and logistics skills and is passionate about grassroots activism and social justice. We’d also love to bring onboard someone who is passionate and experienced in photography, but it’s not essential. The time commitment is approximately 4 - 5 hours per month with a minimum commitment of 6 to 12 months. The ideal candidate will be able to contribute sporadically throughout the week as photography opportunities might come up at the last moment.

We strive to provide a welcoming, engaging and meaningful experience for all of our volunteers. In this role you’ll work closely with your fellow National Photography Network volunteers, the Story and Content and Movement Teams and with some of our awesome activists. You’ll pick up valuable skills and experiences in volunteer management and administrative support, insights about working in an international human rights organisation and will be supported and mentored by Amnesty staff.
