The Australia-Pacific Partnership Platform (The Partnerships Platform) is looking for motivated and skilled professionals who are keen to make a difference. We seek passionate staff who work collaboratively to deliver projects that will help the countries in which we work meet governance and stability challenges. The Partnership Platform is seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Engineering Adviser with a proven track record in the design and construction of sustainable, innovative and climate resilient infrastructure in small island contexts. The ideal candidate is a flexible, resilient technical specialist with a keen focus on capacity development, and ability to leave sustainable improvements in a complex operating environment.
The role of Civil Engineering Adviser will sit within the Tuvalu Public Works Department, under the Ministry of Public Works, Infrastructure, Environment, Labour, Meteorology and Disaster. The areas of focus of the role are:
The position is an accompanied, 12-month position with the option to extend for 2 years. A competitive international standard remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate, including housing and return airfares if required for international candidates and their family.

The Australia-Pacific Partnerships Platform is an Australian Government initiative funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and managed by DT Global. It provides Pacific Countries with a suite of flexible, fit-for-purpose options that support broad governance and stability development outcomes.
For this position, the Partnerships Platform is partnering with the Government of Tuvalu, in particular the Ministry of Public Works, Infrastructure, Environment, Labour, Meteorology and Disaster.
Amongst a broad range of services that the Department of Public Works provides to the Government of Tuvalu, it is responsible for engineering and construction services for the provision of public infrastructure and climate change adaptation projects to support the physical and economic development needs of Tuvalu, as well as resilience from the impacts of climate change. Tuvalu is a low-lying coral atoll country that is both remote and geographically complex with eight outer islands beyond the capital of Funafuti.
Tuvalu works extensively with donor partners, including the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program and the Australian government amongst others.

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, respect, resilience and adaptability, and a preparedness to work with limited resources in a challenging environment, this includes the ability to successfully build and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, with proven experience in infrastructure project coordination and management, including the detailed design and supervision of civil works. Experience in the Pacific or low-lying atolls will be highly valued, as well as previous experience of construction using coral sands and construction and maintenance of coastal protection systems.
You will be required to demonstrate a strong understanding of, and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), child protection and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
The position is expected to be based in Tuvalu for at least nine months of the year. As a setting for work, Tuvalu has its own unique strengths and challenges due to its unique economic and physical environment. It is important that the Civil Engineer has experience in remote and coastal areas.
There are inherent opportunities and challenges that come with living and working in Pacific Country contexts, including considerations unique to being a remote low-lying atoll.
