About the Role

Are you an experienced Special Education Teacher who enjoys sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues? If so, this may be the role for you!

Our unique, small P-12 school provides an adjusted learning environment for students on the autism spectrum and focuses on increasing engagement with learning and others.

Reporting to the Head of Campus and as a member of the School leadership team, you will lead and provide mentorship to  class teachers based in Brighton. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively as a member of the School leadership team to implement and support flexible teaching practices that engage and meet the learning goals  of students on the autism spectrum 
  • Instigate innovative development and implementation of curriculum plans and personalised learning plans that address barriers to learning
  • In consultation with Human Resources and the Head of Campus, recruit and induct, train and develop, manage and support the School teaching team, providing direct management of Class Teachers 
  • Mentor and support the professional development of Class Teachers in alignment with the Professional Standards for Teachers and Autism Queensland (AQ) Pedagogy, and monitor and report on teaching and learning outcomes
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and networks with relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Perform School Class Teacher responsibilities for short periods as may be required from time to time

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Education, preferably with post graduate qualification in Special Education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum, specifically innovative curriculum practices for students requiring differentiated teaching, assessment and reporting
  • Proven highly effective leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of whole school pedagogical practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current theories and best practice regarding support of children with on the autism spectrum, particularly in an educational setting and understanding of the Professional Standards for Teachers, including the ability to facilitate staff mentoring, coaching and support
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills with proven ability to work collaboratively, manage and develop a professional team while building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the Mission of Autism Queensland, and to working with and supporting AQ School students, families and staff
