About Us

Soundfair is an independent for-purpose charity, driven by the voices of those with lived experience with hearing conditions.

Soundfair’s vision is for a fair world for all people with hearing conditions. We know that people are more than just ears and that hearing conditions require more than just devices. We aim to transform the experience, inclusion, and well-being of people with hearing conditions by amplifying their diverse voices, focusing on the whole-person and catalysing change across the system and society.

We work collaboratively with individuals and communities, together with professionals in the hearing services sector, to engage, empower and catalyse change. Our projects include research and development, using human-centred design to provide reimagined hearing care and audiology; workplace education; and providing reconditioned hearing aids to people who would otherwise be unable to afford them. We also like to have fun while we create impact.

The Senior Policy and Project Officer plays a pivotal role in an exciting project which aims to identify barriers to the Hearing Services Program access for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) clients and advise on opportunities to overcome these and improve access.

This position needs a champion with a strong background in:

  • Policy development, research and review
  • Stakeholder consultation
  • Project management

We would also be super excited if you had prior experience with or understanding of the issues faced by CALD communities accessing healthcare services and/or the hearing services program. Those with lived experience as a person with a CALD background and/or hearing condition are especially encouraged to apply.

Role Overview

The Senior Policy and Project Officer reports to the Innovation and Research Lead and may be involved in additional relevant projects as they arise across the organisation.

A key project within the innovation and research stream is the Hearing and Diverse Communities Project. It offers an amazing opportunity to make huge difference in the lives of Australians with a hearing condition who are from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. The project is supported by the Federal Governments Department of Health and specifically aims to identify barriers to the Hearing Services Program (HSP) access for CALD clients and advise on opportunities to overcome these and improve access.

The Senior Policy and Project Officer will:

  • Put their amazing project management skills to work managing project activities, including planning, working to budgets and reporting
  • Gain knowledge and understanding through research and evidence including a literature review to understand factors contributing to the uptake (and/or lack of uptake) of hearing and other health services by CALD people.
  • Learn and be enlightened by the advice and expertise of people with lived experience and our stakeholders. This includes active engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and the design of interviews, focus group and workshop sessions to extract the views and insights required.
  • Create impactful advice: collate, synthesise and analyse data and insights to identify factors impacting on access to the HSP for CALD people and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Show their fabulous ability to communicate through the development of complex written policy options, reports, communications, briefing, articles and presentations.
