This is an exceptional opportunity to make a very real contribution to the protection of Australia’s unique wildlife and their habitat.

Bush Heritage Australia, an independent, leading conservation not-for-profit, is seeking a Reserve Manager - Paroo Warrego to work within our South East team.

Our vision of Healthy Country, Protected Forever sees us work where we are needed most: in areas of high conservation value with low levels of protection. With the help of our donors, we buy and manage land, so we can protect our irreplaceable landscapes and our magnificent native species forever.

We buy land that has outstanding conservation values and reconnect fragmented landscapes to protect habitat for wildlife. In addition, we partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and agricultural landowners to achieve conservation outcomes. Currently, Bush Heritage is working across more than 11.3 million hectares, protecting native and endangered species.

About the role

Naree is part of the traditional Country of the Budjiti people. The primary role of the Reserve Manager Paroo Warrego is to ensure that day to day management of the Reserves and partnerships in the Paroo Warrego Priority Landscape meets the goals of Bush Heritage Australia. Management of the Reserves occurs within the context of the implementation of the Reserve Management Plans. The Reserve Manager will be expected to represent and promote Bush Heritage in the region and will also provide advice to Bush Heritage’s planning, marketing and operations programs to ensure that the goals of the organisation are efficiently achieved.

The Reserve Manager will require a sound understanding of adaptive management, natural and cultural resource management and will have extensive experience in applying these principles for biodiversity conservation. The Reserve Manager is responsible for the development and management of the budget in line with Bush Heritage’s Conservation Management Planning processes.

Bush Heritage relies on its supporters taking a role in the ongoing management of its Reserves and partnerships. Opportunities to engage others in the delivery of science, land management conservation and cultural heritage activities in and around its reserves will be undertaken by the Reserve Manager in collaboration with the Healthy Landscapes Manager, Regional Ecologist, Visitation Coordinator, National Volunteer Program Coordinator and the Aboriginal Partnerships Officer.

The position will be based at our Naree Station Reserve and will require travel to and within the Reserves and other locations on an as needed basis. This is a 1.0 FTE position and opportunities for a job share arrangement for a couple with complementary skills will be considered with additional FTE added to undertake a support role. Bush Heritage aims to provide a family-friendly work environment and has the capacity to negotiate with interested and suitably qualified couples to create a Reserve Management Team at Naree Station in a job-share arrangement, where the skillset of the couple may add value to the position description described (e.g. skillsets of ecology, planning, administration on top of the requirements outlined above will be considered)
