The Role

The Head Cook is responsible for managing the kitchen facility and providing meals to residents of the Queens Road Rooming House.

With a view to providing high quality, nutritious meals to residents, the cook will:

  • Maintain an awareness of resident dietary requirements.
  • Undertake menu planning including desserts and snacks a minimum of 2 weeks in advance.
  • Maintain kitchen and equipment including ordering food and cleaning supplies, ensuring equipment is maintained and/or repaired and undertaking regular stock checks.
  • Take full responsibility for food preparation, presentation and service in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Clean the dining room including dishes.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of resident behaviours and following up with tenancy or support services if a resident appears to require support.
  • Supervise kitchen staff including training, rostering and backfilling for staff as required.
  • Manage the kitchen budget.
  • Liaise with suppliers, onsite support services, council, health inspector and kitchen maintenance providers.
  • Provide additional appropriate support to wider team and organisation.

About You

To be successful for this role, you will have a genuine passion for wanting to support vulnerable people in our community.

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified cook with experience of high volume output
  • Certificate 3 or 5 Commercial Cookery or Diploma - Commercial Cookery
  • Food Handling Certificate
  • Comprehensive understanding of kitchen safety
  • Commitment to the right of every person to good quality housing
  • Satisfactory Police, NDIS & Working With Children’s Check

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in the social/community housing industry.

Please note that satisfactory Police Check is required for all staff and those with client related responsibilities are required to provide a NDIS and Working with Children Check (WWCC).
