In partnership with Community Hubs Australia, our school operates an on-site Community Hub. The space welcomes families from a refugee or migrant background, particularly mothers with young children, using place-based programs to connect, share and learn. The hub bridges the gap between families who have recently arrived in Australia and the wider community by connecting them with organisations that can provide health, education and settlement support. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Community Hub Leader will have the following role and key responsibilities:

  • Support participation in hub, school and community activities by linking to appropriate information, programs and services.
  • Advocate for family needs or issues.
  • Organise activities, programs or events in response to family needs and interests, consistent with the objectives of the National Community Hub Program.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with Community Hub Leaders, school staff, community members, services, funding agencies and early years' networks operating at the local level to support the needs of families.
  • Create opportunities to develop community programs that build the capacity of parents/caregivers and families to participate in the development and life of the Community Hub and general community.
  • Develop and implement a Hub work plan in line with school priorities, contractual obligations and program outcomes; and associated administration and periodical reporting tasks, as required.
  • Ensure all facilitators and volunteers engaged in Community Hub activities comply with relevant policies and procedures including working with children and police checks.

ROLE CRITERIA

  • Qualifications and/or experience in Education, Community Development or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a dynamic and flexible working environment, such as a school setting.
  • Knowledge of community development principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and the child and family service system.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural awareness, mindfulness and empathy when communicating with families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with the community, school staff, stakeholders and local networks.
  • Well-developed oral communication skills as well as sound written and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and as a part of a team, including develop planning, time management and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with information and communication technologies, computer software, social networking and web-based applications.
