The Office of the Commissioner for Residential Tenancies (OCRT) is a business unit within the Department of Government Services (DGS).

About the role

We have an opportunity for a Project Officer - APRAP (Aboriginal Private Rental Access Project) to join us on a part-time (0.6 FTE) basis for 6 months.

This is a designated position under the ‘special measures' Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

The purpose of the APRAP Project Officer role is to provide support for the implementation of the recommendations arising from the Aboriginal Private Rental Access Project.

This project contributes to the private rental area of Mana-na worn-tyeen maar-takoort - Every Aboriginal Person has a Home: The Victorian Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Framework.

As a member of a small team, the Project Officer will have well developed organisational skills that will support the Commissioner and other members of her staff.

Key Accountabilities of the role include:

  • Liaising with Departmental colleagues and other external stakeholders relevant to the respective project recommendations.
  • Providing support for the implementation of each recommendation and report on progress in the agreed format.
  • Convening and providing administrative support to the Aboriginal Private Rental Access Committee, which is co-chaired by the Commissioner and a representative of an Aboriginal Community Controlled Agency to oversee the implementation of the recommendations.
  • Preparing background papers and other documents as requested by the Commissioner.
  • Developing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with the project partners and other relevant stakeholders.

About you

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate the following technical expertise:

  • Knowledge or experience: Demonstrable knowledge or experience in residential tenacies, housing or homelessness.
  • Community networks: Established contacts or networks within First Nations communities.
  • Service experience: Experience in or of housing and homelessness services.
