  • Fixed term to 30 June 2022 Allied Health 3 role available ($87,640 to $99,438 + super)

The Prisoner Disability Support Initiative (PDSI) will better support the rehabilitation of prisoners with disability and complex needs and their transition back into the community. Join us and make your mark in establishing this best practice initiative.

We are currently seeking clinicians for the following locations:

  • Lara and Greater Geelong (based at Barwon Prison and/or Marngoneet and Karreenga Correctional Centres)
  • Grampians (based at Hopkins Correctional Centre with outreach work at Langi Kal Kal Prison as required)

If you want to challenge yourself in a forensic setting and help set the standard for complex needs treatment within corrections, we want to hear from you.

A day in the life of a PDSI clinician

Building on your experience working with people with disability and complex needs, your role will focus on delivering newly established services as well as provide support and treatment.

  • Apply key therapeutic frameworks to guide assessment and treatment recommendations for complex needs such as cognitive impairment and psycho-social disability.
  • Support prisoners in accessing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
  • Determine treatment pathways and implement behaviour support plans.
  • Support the facilitation of therapeutic and life skills programs.
  • Help develop staff capability in the areas of disability and complex needs.
  • Be part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team including case workers, case managers and activity coordinators.
  • Complete risk assessments using evidence-based tools.
  • Target criminogenic needs and underlying thinking patterns.
  • Facilitate therapeutic intervention services.

As part of our team, you will provide support to both metro and regional correctional facilities which will involve some travel to regional Victoria.

Eligibility

To apply, you’ll need to hold (or be eligible for) one of the following:

  • General registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Be registered as a nurse and be eligible to be credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse.
  • Be registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include national police checks and misconduct screening. You will also need to possess a current Victorian driver’s licence.
