Do you have a background in psychology, social work, occupational therapy or mental health nursing? If so, Corrections Victoria wants your help to become a world leader in guiding offenders through positive behavioural change.

We are currently seeking clinicians in the following locations to join Forensic Intervention Services, a specialist program area of Corrections Victoria dedicated to making our community safer by reducing re-offending.

  • Melbourne CBD
  • Lara and Greater Geelong (based at Barwon Prison and/or Marngoneet and Karreenga Correctional Centres)
  • Ararat (based at Hopkins Correctional Centre and/or Langi Kal Kal Prison)
  • Loddon Mallee (based at Loddon and Middleton Prison)

A day in the life of our clinicians

While under COVID-19 restrictions, your role will be to provide clinical support via phone, video conference or face to face (if safe to do so in accordance with the Chief Medical Officer’s guidelines), undertaking a variety of tasks that will develop your skills and experience. These include:

  • Applying behavioural therapy methods to offenders, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).
  • Screening offenders for risk using evidence-based tools and systems.
  • Delivering programs directly to offenders.
  • Addressing criminal behaviour and encouraging positive change.
  • Facilitating therapeutic intervention services.
  • Determining treatment pathways and preparing plans and reports.
  • Applying the key therapeutic frameworks outlined in your training to guide assessment and treatment recommendations.

Your eligibility to apply

To apply, you’ll need to hold (or be eligible for) one of the following:

  • General registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Be credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN).
  • Be registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include national police checks and misconduct screening. You will also need to possess a current Victorian driver’s licence.
