Working for the Work Health and Safety Queensland provides you with an opportunity to make a real difference. They are one of five regulators at the Office of Industrial Relations that impacts on the lives of Queensland workers and employers. Through their regulatory frameworks, they are charged with making Queensland work and workplaces psychologically healthier and safer in the same way we protect physical health and safety. Their support is key in driving mentally healthy workplaces across all industries, for all organisations and for all occupations within Queensland.

Working to achieve the vision of safer and healthier Queensland workplaces the Chief Advisor Psychological Health will lead a specialist team to design, develop and implement strategies to regulate effectively for psychological health at work and support thriving workplaces across Queensland.

The role will be responsible for oversight and management of high quality programs and services that monitor and improve work-related psychological health outcomes. Chief Adviser Psychological Health, your role will include but won’t be limited to:

  • Lead and direct the psychological health team to undertake research, planning, development and implementation of workplace mental health initiatives/programs that support whole of government, national and OIR activities.
  • Provide high level advice to the Director Psychological Health concerning program outcomes and emerging/contemporary issues.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders including industry representatives, academics, other workplace health and safety jurisdictions, mental health organisations and relevant stakeholders to create partnership opportunities.
  • Provide high level support to regional management related to advisory, engagement and compliance activities.
  • Prepare complex technical reports, correspondence and briefs in response to ministerial requests and operational matters as directed by the Director Psychological Health.
  • Recommend and influence Legislation, policy and standards development relevant to workplace mental health.
  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the team(s) over which you may have responsibility. This includes ensuring you and your team members are aware of and observing their responsibilities and obligations including under relevant OIR HSW policies and procedures.
  • Build a proactive team environment that takes the initiative to create a shared sense of purpose.
  • Maintain sensitivity and confidentiality during all interactions and liaisons with staff and stakeholders.
  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the team(s) over which you have responsibility. This includes ensuring you and your team members are aware of and observing their responsibilities and obligations including under relevant OIR HSW policies and procedures.

In order to be successful in your application you will have demonstrated effective strategic leadership within a team of expert health professionals. Although not mandatory, possession of a four year degree in a health related field from an accredited tertiary institution would be highly regarded as would other qualifications related to workplace health and safety.
