Disaster Relief Australia

WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2016, Disaster Relief Australia is a veteran led non-profit organisation that unites the skills and experience of military veterans with emergency services specialists to rapidly deploy disaster relief teams around Australia and the world in the wake of natural disasters.

WHAT WE DO

When disaster strikes, we work hard to help the most vulnerable in need. By working with or alongside local agencies and governments, Disaster Relief Australia quickly responds to large-scale natural disasters to provide relief to communities in need. In short, we help people on their worst days.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Based at our National Support Centre in Adelaide, you will be working within a small, dynamic and fast paced team as a member of DRA’s Development Department. As Project Marketing Officer this role will focus on supporting the Project Resilience team on event planning, marketing and communications activity as part of the Minderoo Foundation’s Building Resilient Communities partnership.

Communities that have higher levels of resilience are better equipped to cope with the impact of disasters and make plans to adapt to such events in the future. The Resilient Communities Initiative is a program that will aim to lift resilience to fire and flood risk communities across Australia by 2025. As part of Project Resilience, we will provide support to communities through local programs addressing critical issues such as mental health, underinsurance, access to essential resources, education and training on resilience and leadership.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Development team, Resilience Project Manager and DRT Managers on community awareness programs and events, including planning and logistics.
  • Development of marketing, communications and fundraising material for Project Resilience.
  • In consultation with the Resilience Project Manager, establishing cooperative networks across government, non- government and community groups that can assist community resilience and develop local infrastructure that will endure beyond the implementation of this project.
  • Developing resources such as fact sheets, presentation decks, articles and case studies around the Building Resilient Communities Initiative.
  • Developing and disseminating communications for key stakeholders regarding proposed resilience activities (e.g., calendar of events)
  • Working with the Development team to plan, organise and implement Project Resilience marketing campaigns, including website updates, social media content, event signage and printed material.
  • Identifying local opportunities for DRA to engage with/participate in for brand awareness, recruitment and fundraising and make recommendations to wider Development team.
  • Capturing opportunities for community stories to promote and create content about Project Resilience for use on multiple platforms and to engage stakeholders.

THE RIGHT PERSON WILL

  • Have strong project coordination skills with the ability to be both strategic and operational.
  • Experience working with local government associations, community groups and volunteers
  • Event management experience
  • Proven experience delivering marketing projects and campaigns on time and within budget and scope.
  • Exceptional writing skills with an eye for detail and the ability to create a diverse range of content.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic work environment.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g., bachelor’s degree with a major in communications and/or marketing).
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Current National Police Clearance Check or willingness to undergo such screening.

This position is initially offered as a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension.
