Station Caretakers - Kalumburu, Kimberley

Dunkeld Pastoral Company
  • 6-month wet season contract
  • Unique opportunity to live and work on a remote (over 400kms from the nearest town) conservation-focused property in the far north Kimberley
  • Varied mechanical skills are essential with property caretaking experience advantageous
  • Would suit a couple with a desire for a remote lifestyle

ABOUT THE ROLE

A fantastic opportunity exists in one of Australia’s most beautiful and culturally significant regions.

Theda Station is managed alongside neighbouring Doongan Station, and together, the properties cover over 600,000 ha. The operations across both properties are focused on conservation, biodiversity and land management.

Living and working in a remote area of Australia, your responsibilities as Caretakers will include the maintenance and upkeep of buildings, gardens and equipment.

Together, the ideal candidates will have strong practical and mechanical skills as well as experience with gardening (including vegetable gardens) and domestic duties.

A willingness to turn your hand to a wide variety of tasks and to help on land management initiatives such as weed spraying, fencing and fire management activities will be highly favoured.

6-MONTH CONTRACT POSITIONS - WET SEASON

We are seeking a team of two available from late November 2023 to late May 2024.

During the wet season, the property is inaccessible by road and has average temperatures over 30 degrees.

You will be the only staff on the station and therefore will require good problem-solving ability, a broad range of practical skills and excellent physical health & fitness.

While it is known as the wet season in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions, the rain usually falls in heavy, short downpours in the late afternoon and evenings. Expect great lightning shows, dramatic sunsets, brimming rivers and plenty of wildlife.

ABOUT YOU

This is a fantastic opportunity for those with an excellent work ethic, practical mechanical skills and a love for the outdoors and Australia’s beautiful landscapes.

The ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong mechanical skills to ensure the maintenance of property, plant and equipment
  • Determination, resilience, and previous experience living in a remote location
  • Unrestricted driver’s licence
  • COVID-19 vaccination
  • Q-fever vaccination (or willingness to obtain)
  • Firearms licence advantageous but not essential

Energetic, physically fit and positive people are encouraged due to the remote location of the property.

Candidates seeking to apply must be willing to complete a national police check and employment medical as part of the recruitment process.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Fully furnished home with garden inclusive of all requirements for day-to-day living – just bring yourselves and your sense of adventure!
  • Food, telephone, star-link internet, and television provided
  • RFDS medical chest on-site
  • Pet dogs are permitted on the property
  • Possibility of role extension to the dry season supporting rock art and flora and fauna research projects

REMUNERATION

A competitive salary dependent on skills and experience circa $45,000 - $60,000 per person per annum, plus accommodation and basic stores, will be negotiated with the successful candidates.
