The Edmund Rice Centre WA has a proud history and an on-going commitment to assisting people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Established in 1998 to provide essential settlement services and community education activities in the northern suburbs of Perth, the Centre services have expanded more widely throughout the metropolitan area with a particular emphasis on young people and youth leadership as a way of ensuring a positive future for all.

We are seeking an experienced settlement caseworker for a full-time contract ending 30th June 2024. The role is funded and there is a possibility for an extension. 

DUTIES

  • Provide generalist settlement assistance , referral and advocacy services for recently arrived refugee, humanitarian and family stream entrants.
  • Undertake community development and related initiatives as per the work program in a culturally appropriate manner to promote smooth settlement of eligible clients.
  • Build and maintain networks with relevant mainstream organisation's to develop a positive relationship to facilitate access to services for clients.
  • Ensure that appropriate client records and services data are maintained, including data entry.
  • Provide written monthly reports to Managers.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of program content and cultural appropriateness and assist with identifying and implementing improvements to program delivery.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Essential:

  • Professional qualifications in social work, community services or related discipline
  • Experience in the provision of casework and case management to humanitarian entrants from new and emerging communities.
  • A strong commitment and sensitivity to working with migrants and refugees
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving and dispute resolution skills
  • Excellent Computer literacy including the input into the design and implementation of data collection systems and word processing skills (eg DEX Data entry, Microsoft Office suite of programs )
  • A current, valid WA Drivers License with own vehicle available for work purposes if required. Ability to drive various work vehicles

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the issues and needs of recently arrived migrants and refugees in WA
  • Knowledge of the relevant support networks for refugees and socially disadvantaged clients in the Perth region
  • Fluency in an emerging community language.
  • Commitment to the principles and ethos of the Edmund Rice Centre WA
