About the role

Have you provided care for a loved one who has used public mental health services? Are you passionate about assisting family and carers to practice self care as well as help their loved one recover?

An opportunity now exists for a Carer Peer Support Worker to join the Clinical team of Maroondah Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC). PARC provides short-term recovery oriented residential support to people aged 16 to 65. A key goal of PARC is to prevent an unplanned admission to an inpatient unit or assist in transition home after an inpatient stay. You will work collaboratively with families, carers, consumers and staff to assist in identifying needs and providing support. You will need to be able to reflect on your own carer lived experience and be willing to utilise your experience to support and inform others.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

• Lived experience as carer of a family member/friend who has accessed public mental health services
• Understanding of mental health peer support principles and ability to use peer support to provide hope, an understanding of self-care and a belief in recovery
• The ability to work as part of a diverse team
• Very good communication and organisational skills
