Owned and operated by the Warburton Community, the busy Warburton Roadhouse can be found nestled within the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, WA and just south of the Gibson Desert.
For travellers crossing the Great Central Road, the Warburton Roadhouse is the perfect place to restock and refuel. With a variety of accommodation options and a good supply of both fresh and frozen food, Warburton Roadhouse is a welcome sight for many a weary traveller.
The Warburton Roadhouse is currently looking for an enthusiastic couple to join their team as Roadhouse Managers, ideally with an immediate start date of June 1st, 2021.
Sharing management duties as a couple, you will be responsible for the full day-to-day management and operations of the Roadhouse, providing the highest level of service to guests and managing food stock and preparation.
In general, your duties will include (but not be limited to):
To be successful, you'll need demonstrated experience in remote area management, with strong financial skills and an understanding of stock control principles. These skills will need to be strong across the two of you, though transferrable skills will be considered provided at least one partner has relevant experience. Prior experience with roadhouses or similar will also be preferred.
You'll be highly organised, with strong problem solving skills and the ability to effectively manage indigenous staff members, where cultural norms and community development priorities may differ from your own.
Although not essential, any experience working in remote areas or with Aboriginal communities will be highly desirable. As will, an understanding of Aboriginal history, culture and contemporary Aboriginal political, social, cultural and economic issues. You'll require a demonstrated ability to work with traditional Aboriginal people in a “dry” community, as well as a commitment to the principles of the Aboriginal self-determination at a community level.
It will be important to have the confidence and resilience to work in, what can often be an undeniably challenging environment. You will need to be flexible to the needs of the roadhouse, and comfortable handling environmental issues such as heat, dust and dirt.
Please note: You will need a current, unrestricted manual Driver's Licence, and have or be willing to obtain a National Police Check.
You'll be joining a welcoming team. In return for your hard work and dedication you will be rewarded with a generous remuneration package in the vicinity of $75,000 to $85,000 (per person) per annum plus 9.5% superannuation.
