OVERVIEW
The Assembly’s objective is to promote the self-determination and empowerment of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians through the Treaty process by:
- Acting as the Aboriginal Representative Body to support Treaty negotiations; and
- Enabling Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians to exercise sovereignty, the right to self-determination and other rights; including those contained in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
This role is part-time weighted at 0.8 (4 days a week or equivalent). This role is responsible for financial planning and analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and internal control. This role is also responsible for financial reporting to management and Members, as well as compliance with government regulations.
responsibilities
- Preparing month-end reports for management and Board, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
- Tracking, reporting, and analysing budget variances.
- Ensuring strong financial control and cash management.
- Oversee regular accounting and finance tasks including reporting (internal and statutory accounts), analysis and supporting reconciliations.
- Contributes and supports the annual budget and ongoing forecasting process of the Assembly’s cash flow projections and modelling.
- Owner of the General Ledger and upholds data integrity, including monthly preparation and review of Balance Sheet reconciliations.
- Manage and review accounts payable and payroll functions undertaken by the Bookkeeper and Payroll Officer.
- Manage audit engagement including provision of information and evidence to meet audit requirements and the resolution of outstanding matters.
- Ensure compliance of superannuation, BAS and FBT requirements, including completion of statutory lodgements.
- Recognising areas to improve business efficiencies and reduce costs.
- Identify opportunities to improve the accounting and finance functions and participate in the implementation of initiatives and policies.
- Team management including mentoring and staff development.
qualifications
Skills, Competencies & Knowledge:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Aboriginal Communities in Victoria.
- Minimum 10 years of accounting experience
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and standards
- Experience with managing month end process and implementing good practice procedures
- Comprehensive understanding of ATO, FBT, superannuation and other regulatory compliance requirements
- Self-motivated, positive and resilient leader with great multi-tasking
- Enthusiastic about mentoring and staff development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to form strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Able to work under pressure to tight deadlines and to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member.
- Experienced user of Xero and Microsoft Office Suite products.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters qualifications in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration or Business Law
- Professional accounting qualifications such as CA or CPA
- Previous experience in a financial controller role in a small or medium sized business is preferred
- In-depth knowledge of financial regulations and accounting processes.
The role is 0.8 with a salary of $129,379 – 151,259 per annum (full-time equivalent) plus salary packaging, and superannuation, based on experience and expertise.
