This role includes the overall safe operating responsibility and accountability of the transport and warehouse functions, including roles such as forklift truck driving, truck driving and general warehouse duties as directed by a supervisor. This role focusses heavily upon the ability to work with volunteer staff and paid employees alike. In addition, the role has interaction with external stakeholders (food donors) and is often the main point of contact for donors.
Key responsibilities
Stock Management
- Receives all inbound stock via transport or donors and completes all necessary paperwork whilst ensuring that stock is handled in an appropriate manner. May be required to issue tax receipt for donations;
- Receives and accurately records donated stock and prepares stock for dispatch to regional branches and remote agencies, accurately recording weights;
- Replenishes stock volumes on the Agency Floor, the chilled, frozen and retail areas, and removes empty pallets and packaging. Checks date codes;
- Checks cool room, freezers, Agency floor and warehouse for litter and damages and ensures all rubbish is removed;
- As required, conducts compliance checks on stock including temperature monitoring, perishable dates (“Use by/Best before”) on short-coded stock in the facility and removes any product that can no longer be used;
- Accurately records all stock weights that are received, transferred to the sales floor, transferred to regional branches, or dumped;
- Assists with normal warehouse operations as required;
- Operates a forklift to load and unload delivery trucks, moves stock around the premises as directed, and maintains a tidy back yard by properly stacking pallets and empty bins;
- Performs duties in accordance with HACCP, relevant Occupational Health and Safety and Equal Opportunity Legislation;
- Ensures that all relevant administration has been completed in accordance with all state legislation and formalised by the Logistics and Supply Chain Manager; and
- Provides excellent customer service to those requiring assistance during visits to Foodbank WA.
Driving
- Collects donated dry goods, frozen foods, chilled foods or non-foods from vendors property;
- Delivers products to freight companies for on forwarding to Regional Foodbanks and regional and remote destinations;
- Schedules food donation collections in a timely respectful manner as advised by the line manager;
- Completes all necessary vehicle checks and cleans vehicle on a weekly basis. Ensures all faults are logged with the line manager; and
- Drives forklift with adherence to safe working practices.
Volunteers
- Provides direction and supervises volunteers as required
Essential Criteria:
- Experience and demonstrated ability in warehouse and store procedures;
- Current licence to drive a truck (MR, HR);
- Knowledge of OH&S procedures;
- Knowledge and experience of Foodsafe requirements;
- Ability to work alone and in a group environment, especially with volunteer staff;
- Capable of regular lifting;
- Current licence to drive a forklift truck;
- Current Licence to Perform High Risk Work (forklift);
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in wholesale environment operations;
- Demonstrated ability to relate to a work force which is predominantly volunteer based;
- Understanding of Non-for-profit organisations and Community based Human Services Provision; and
- Knowledge of HACCP procedure.
