About the Victorian Refugee Health Network

The Victorian Refugee Health Network (Network) works to develop responsive health service systems that meet the needs of people from refugee backgrounds, including asylum seekers (http://refugeehealthnetwork.org.au/). The Network is auspiced by the Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture Inc (VFST). (http://www.foundationhouse.org.au/)

The Network provides support to the health, settlement and community sector by convening working groups, developing resources, hosting forums, completing reviews of available literature, providing specialist advice, time-limited projects and participating in practice-related research projects. The Network regularly contributes to or participates in advisory groups, research, training delivery, submissions and other relevant networks.

About Foundation House

The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture Inc. (also known as Foundation House) provides services to advance the health, wellbeing and human rights of people of refugee backgrounds in Victoria who have experienced torture or other traumatic events in their country of origin or while fleeing those countries.

The organisation was established in Melbourne in 1987 and is non-denominational, politically neutral and non-aligned. Foundation House is a state-wide agency offering services in metropolitan, regional and rural areas, with head office based in Brunswick. We have approximately 200 staff with metropolitan regional offices in Dallas, Sunshine, Dandenong and Ringwood.

The position

The Sector Development & Policy Advisor provides support for the operation of the Victorian Refugee Health Network by:

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in health, community and settlement services, and with key government departments to support sector development
  • Providing policy analysis, development and advice, supporting development of submissions and other network products as required
  • Undertaking theses analysis, coordinating and completing identified projects, supporting working groups, preparing information resources as required

About you

  • We are seeking an excellent communicator, who has a proven track record in project management, a good working knowledge of refugee health, for example primary care and immunisation.
  • You will be a team player with the ability to work independently when required and be self-aware and work with cross cultural sensitivity.
  • Take initiative in identifying and acting on policy and practice issues, with the flexibility to manage multiple priorities and projects to ensure delivery in accordance with expectations.
  • You will have strong diplomatic management and relationship skills with the ability to interact with others whilst displaying compassion and empathy.

Salary and Benefits

Remuneration is based on our Enterprise Agreement 2014 up to $90,263 gross per annum pro rata. Benefits include generous salary packaging, leave loading, a range of flexible working options, and a highly supportive team environment.
