Frontier Services is Australia's oldest bush charity, supporting people living in rural and remote areas of Australia since 1912. Through our national networks of Bush Chaplains and Outback Links volunteers, we provide practical, pastoral and spiritual care to people doing it tough in isolated areas.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role will develop and implement a proactive major gifts and bequests program. Building strong, respectful relationships with existing and potential donors, this role will apply appropriate donor engagement and stewardship strategies to increase major gift income and the pipeline of bequest supporters for Frontier Services and its endowment fund, the John Flynn Foundation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research, identify, cultivate and solicit new and increased major gifts and gifts in wills from the current supporter base and from new sources
  • Engage philanthropic donors through tailored stewardship strategies, leveraging key internal representatives as appropriate, to develop strong relationships to secure their support of our programs and strategic activities
  • Develop a rolling engagement program in collaboration with the fundraising team, to be incorporated with the wider organisational and Uniting Church activities
  • Work collaboratively with the program team to understand their work in order to develop compelling proposals and impact reports
  • Provide a high-touch commitment to every donor throughout the development of their personalised donor journey
  • Track the movement of donors through the giving cycle through comprehensive records and engagement plans
  • Maintain the retention and upgrade goals of the major gifts and bequests portfolio, ensuring donors are engaged and inspired about their contributions and that all obligations to donors are fulfilled
  • Research and maintain awareness of new initiatives and practices in the fundraising, philanthropy, and broader for-purpose sector
  • Identify and implement process improvement strategies into day-to-day business operations
  • Regularly report on portfolio activities, pipelines and results.

SKILLS AND EXPerience

  • An experienced relationship professional, able to drive long-term, high-value individual relationships and secure large gifts and bequests
  • Confident, proactive, and personable with highly developed interpersonal skills and a proven ability to develop strong fundraising relationships
  • Excellent communicator with an ability to communicate the Frontier Services vision with passion to prospective donors through various channels (presenting, content creation and writing)
  • Strong administration skills, a love of best-practice process and the ability to write proposals and execute a plan
  • Familiarity with legislative framework within which fundraising activities must operate
  • An understanding of the Uniting Church structure or experience within the religious institution sector
  • Comfortable working in a small team
  • Familiarity with/understanding of the social, environmental, political and spiritual landscape, including the challenges and opportunities of regional, rural and remote Australia
  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline

Other information

Head office is located in Sydney CBD, but work location is flexible - hybrid and remote arrangements are available for the right candidate.
