Community and Volunteer Engagement Adviser

Office of Gabrielle De Vietri MLA

Gabrielle de Vietri is the new Greens MP for the seat of Richmond in the Victorian parliament. She is looking for an enthusiastic and committed person to staff her electorate office (FT/PT).

Expressions of interest are sought for people interested in the following role:

COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT

The Community and Volunteer Engagement adviser will be responsible for undertaking local engagement work with communities across the Richmond electorate and assisting constituents with a range of issues.

The role requires the ability to establish and implement a community engagement and campaign strategy for proactive and reactive campaigns, plan community events and projects, and liaise with community groups, including representing Gabrielle at community meetings.

A key part of this role is responding to and assisting individual constituents in Richmond with requests for support. This may include helping people with problems in their public housing, to helping them understand the education and health system, to sitting down and hearing their ideas for local projects.

The role will also be responsible for developing and implementing a volunteer strategy, including recruiting, training and managing volunteers.

This is a small, collaborative office where staff have defined roles, with some flexibility and sharing of roles as needed.

  • All roles will work with Gabrielle to develop and implement the long term strategy of the team and all staff will be expected to undertake some administrative tasks.
  • At times staff also undertake other duties as required, including representing Gabrielle at events, supporting the other roles in Gabrielle’s team, answering the phone, helping constituents, responding to correspondence, posting on Gabrielle’s social media, keeping on top of the events of the day, and more.

There are options for full time and part time work and you can express an interest in more than one, or a hybrid, of the roles currently advertised. There will be the opportunity for one or two regular work from home days per week if desired, with at least 3 days working from our office in Fitzroy expected.

TO BE AN ELECTORATE OFFICER YOU NEED TO DEMONSTRATE:

  • Experience in the work described above.
  • Values that align with the Greens’ values of social justice, environmental sustainability and peace and non-violence.
  • Well-developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and great organisation skills (you’ll have to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines).
  • The ability to maintain a friendly and approachable manner with people of all backgrounds and personalities and develop and maintain strong relationships even under pressure.
  • The capacity to comprehend complex issues and quickly adapt to changing circumstances at short-notice.
  • The ability to maintain strict confidentiality on all issues associated with the office and your duties as an adviser.
  • Flexible, can-do attitude, the ability to take initiative and work well in a small, dynamic team.

People from diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. We understand this role includes many different elements. Even if you don’t have all the experience necessary, we encourage you to apply if you have a ‘let’s get things done’ attitude, a commitment to Greens values, the ability to work well with others and build relationships, and a willingness to learn quickly.
