About the Opportunity

GML Heritage seeks an experienced consultant with a strong community engagement background to join our First Nations and Community Heritage team in Sydney. This role supports the Manager, First Nations and Community Heritage in designing, developing and implementing local stakeholder and community engagement across a diverse range of heritage projects.

As required, the role liaises with other consulting teams to assist with the delivery of communication and engagement tasks including:

  • Co-develop, coordinate, and implement community and stakeholder engagement strategies and plans heritage projects.
  • Support the development and implementation of a range of community and stakeholder engagement tools and techniques such as community forums and events, workshops, interviews, surveys, meetings, and seminars (face to face and video), collate qualitative data, carry out site inspections, and meet with clients.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with a broad range of community groups, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Carry out research, prepare plans and reports across a diverse portfolio of heritage places and projects.
  • Respond to project inquiries, prepare proposals and tenders, conduct research, manage projects, author reports, build and manage client relationships, and contribute to a broad range of heritage service requirements.
  • Work across several projects simultaneously, ensuring activities are well coordinated and delivered on time.
  • 6-month initial fixed term contract.
  • Office based in Surry Hills - flexible working arrangements available.

About You

  • 3-5 years’ experience in consulting and or community engagement in the public or private sector.
  • Understanding of First Nations heritage, communities, and heritage values and assessment processes.
  • Ability to work on high profile and sensitive community issues.
  • Tertiary qualifications (ideally with Honours, or Masters level) in communications or equivalent experience within community engagement, or a related discipline Heritage Studies and or Museum Studies).
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing community engagement strategies and plans, as well as report writing in a consulting environment.
  • Excel in a multi-disciplinary team environment and deftly manage budgetary and time constraints
  • This role requires travel to outer suburban and regional locations, and work outside of core business hours in the evening and on weekends.
  • Knowledge of current best practice approaches in First Nations heritage and NSW state and local government statutory requirements.
  • Accreditation in IAP2 practices is desirable but not essential.
