GetUp is looking for a Chief Operations Officer who will work closely with the CEO and executive staff to design , drive and deliver major strategic and organisational change projects, while ensuring operational excellence across the country.You will be an experienced and highly capable senior leader.

Salary is $145,000 - $165,000 per annum (pro-rata) + superannuation, negotiable based upon relevant experience and qualifications. This is a full time position based in Sydney or Melbourne. The Role – Chief Operations Officer

This newly created position will be integral in assisting the design and delivery of major strategic and organisational change, while ensuring operational excellence across the country.

The COO will provide leadership and the strategic management necessary to ensure there are the proper operational controls, processes, procedures and resources in place to effectively align and grow GetUp and to ensure both financial strength and sustainable operating efficiency.

Ideally you are a high performing strategic leader with extraordinary engagement skills and an exemplary record of achievement in implementing transformational change within a large and complex organisational environment. Your personal presence, ability to influence and collaborative approach foster relationship development, positive workplace culture and a commitment to excellence.

Experience, knowledge & skills

You will have strong Executive-level experience with strong people management skills as well as demonstrated business acumen and commercial experience, including strategic planning and financial management. Some experience in law or as a company secretary is highly desirable.

Bonus points will be given to people who have previous experience working effectively with a volunteer board.

Key Accountabilities

The Chief Operations Officer will be responsible for:

Strategy

  • Contribute to the strategic direction by being actively involved in the development and implementation of the long term strategic plan;
  • translating this Strategic Plan into operational key deliverables and policies that deliver a high performing, growing and sustainable organisation;
  • Operational Plans, timelines and delivery, including working with the Chief Financial Officer on financial sustainability and budgeting;
  • Setting and implementing GetUp’s operational and business strategy to achieve organisational goals;
  • Setting and monitoring the organisational budget, and making interventions to ensure fundraising and spending stay on track;
  • Identifying business opportunities, challenges and risks, and taking timely action to seize or mitigate them;

Management & Staff

  • Direct management of the Operations Team and it’s functioning to support the goals of the organisation;
  • Direct management of the Operations and Executive team members;
  • Developing, coordinating and implementing training and development for the Executive Team;
  • Recruitment and development of staff team;
  • Developing, coordinating and implementing training and development for the staff team;
  • Working in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer accountable for setting the Industrial relations strategy for GetUp and ensuring the efficient management of a successful and robust Industrial Relations framework;
  • Managing and working with exec/senior operational staff to ensure smooth day-to-day business operations;
  • Ensuring the voices of GetUp staff and members with lived experiences are reflected in business operations;
  • Promoting a positive organisational culture that supports high performance, strategic alignment, strong employee engagement and sustainable work practices;
  • Ensuring the organisation is conducting itself with integrity, managing business risk appropriately, and complying with all laws and regulations.

Governance & Board

  • The position and duties of the Company Secretary;
  • Be available to brief the Chief Executive Officer on matters for review in advance of meetings of the Board;
  • Be responsible for the development of Board papers, meeting schedules and action item;
  • As requested by the Board, attend meetings of the Board and its Committees and present the information necessary or relevant to the Board or such Committee for discharging its duties;
  • Working with, and providing regular updates to, the GetUp Board on high-level operational questions relating to organisational direction, vision and sustainability;
  • Being a public spokesperson for GetUp as required to a range of institutional, community and political stakeholders;
  • Other duties as directed by the Chief Executive Officer or identified in the process of building out this new role.
