Position Summary
Assist to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families a coordinated mix of services to address multiple levels of need, and to build family and community capacity to safely care for and protect their children. Functional accountabilities of this role include: the practical services and supports to build knowledge, strength, and capacity of families and to provide the necessary environment to optimise the trajectory of health and wellbeing of all members of the family unit. Provide delivery of support in a manner which ensures meaningful engagement of the person in all decision making, with a bias toward building individual capability to participate in and lead the coordination of their own support.
About you
- Qualifications in a relevant field and/or relevant experience including social work, psychology, social sciences, or related clinical field.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families, including intensive case management, trauma informed practice and community engagement and development programs.
- Previous experience working in a team with the ability to work as part of an inter-professional team including knowledge and understanding of the roles and contributions of other professionals.
- Previous experience with case management, including relevant processes and procedures.
- Experience in the delivery of family wellbeing / family support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, youth, and families.
- Ability to communicate sensitivity and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to, the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health services.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skills, confidentiality and record keeping..
- Current C Class Driver’s License (QLD) – essential.
- Satisfactory police check – no serious Criminal/Court record – mandatory.
- Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply – mandatory.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed to meet the program needs, including the requirement to travel, work and stay overnight for up to several days at a time in remote areas.
- Willingness to travel by road and small plane.
