Purpose of the role
The Centre Manager will provide leadership and operational management of the Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service (NRCWS), ensuring those affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs experience quality support and guidance and are given the skills and confidence to contribute positively to their communities.
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to the team
- Ensure the goals and objectives are achieved within the accepted professional, ethical, moral, and legal standards applicable to the operation of a residential drug and alcohol, and community wellbeing service.
- Responsible for the continual progression of the new Trauma Informed Empowerment Model of Care, embedding continuous quality improvement, provision, and evaluation of all services encompassed by the NRCWS in Normanton and the Lower Gulf Communities.
- Manage the daily operations of the centre and service delivery, including staff to ensure its efficient and smooth running, whilst providing a safe and culturally secure healing environment for residents.
- Take a lead role in ensuring services meet the needs of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in alignment with an Aboriginal Community Control framework and Gidgee Healing strategic objective.
- Working as one team with Gidgee Healing and in partnership with key stakeholders to ensure that community members can access a well-integrated, culturally appropriate, comprehensive drug and alcohol rehabilitation and community wellbeing service.
- Lead and contribute to the ongoing policy and program development in response to directions set including continued service development and evaluation, resource development, public relations, human resource management, relationship with stakeholders, and communication with complementary services.
Qualifications / Experience
- Appropriate tertiary or Post Graduate qualification in health, community services, social work (ideally recognised by AHPRA and/or the associated professional body), or a discipline relevant to the provision of drug and alcohol and community wellbeing services.
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary Indigenous alcohol and other drug issues including key policies and service types and early intervention programs.
- Demonstrated effective and exemplary level of communication skills, both verbal, and written, and the ability to prepare written reports.
- Demonstrated ability to critically analyse complex issues, analyse data, prepare reports, and exercise sound judgement.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience in planning, developing, and managing complex and diverse primary health care or drug and alcohol recovery services, preferably in a rural/remote context and including Aboriginal communities.
- Evidence of extensive knowledge of legislative requirements that govern residential drug and alcohol service environments.
- Understanding of and adherence to the principles of Aboriginal community-controlled health services, including a high level awareness of health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in rural and remote locations.
- An understanding of how ‘whole-of-life’ and social circumstances can impact health, wellbeing, and opportunities.
- Proven capability in stakeholder engagement and relationship building with the ability to liaise and communicate productively with a variety of people from all levels of service delivery across the health sector to advance the needs of marginalised vulnerable people within our community.
- Demonstrate strong organisational and management skills, particularly in the areas of program management, human resources, financial management, and physical resources in remote settings. This includes extensive experience in clinical governance, risk management principles, and continuous quality improvement.
- Ability to communicate and empathise with those whose lives have been affected by problematic alcohol and other drug use/and or mental health disorders.
- Demonstrated competence in Computer literacy, including the use of client record systems, electronic communication, and word processing.
Other requirements
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld) and the ability to travel across remote communities as required.
- Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card.
- Current National Police Check or willingness to apply
