ABOUT GIVEOUT & AURORA
GiveOUT and Aurora Group are two Australian LGBTQIA+-led community funders who hold a shared vision of creating an empowered, resilient and well-resourced LGBTQIA+ community sector. We achieve this through sector capacity building to increase financial resiliency, research and advocacy around LGBTQIA+ giving, and the raising and distribution of funds to LGBTQIA+ community organisations through GiveOUT Day, Amplify Pride Fund and Ignite Pride.
This role will have a large focus on leading marketing and communications for GiveOUT Day on 17 October 2024, Australia’s national day of giving to LGBTQIA+ community groups and projects. ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity to join a growing team as Marketing and Communications Manager. You will be responsible for developing and executing engaging, values-aligned and integrated marketing and communications strategies and implementation plans for the organisation, and specifically for the GiveOUT Day campaign. The role will have a strong focus on digital and social media marketing and communications, and require tailoring content and messages for our two key stakeholder groups: (1) LGBTQIA+ communities, not-for-profits and projects and (2) Funders (including philanthropy, corporates and individuals). You will be an integral part of a small, passionate, and collaborative team who are committed to growing the amount of funding and support for Australian LGBTQIA+ communities.
KEY DETAILS
- JOB TYPE: Flexible part-time 28-30 hours p/w until 13th December. There may be an opportunity to extend, which will be confirmed in November 2024.
- LOCATION: Remote. Must be based within Australia. May be required to travel to Sydney or Melbourne for meetings.

- SALARY: $90,000 - $100,000 per annum (FTE pro rata) + 11% superannuation
- EMPLOYER: GiveOUT (although you will also complete tasks for our community peer Aurora Group)
POSITION OBJECTIVES INCLUDE:
- Develop marketing strategies for the organisation and for GiveOUT Day that clearly align with organisational values, strategic objectives and KPIs
- Execute marketing strategies and plans in line with budget and project timelines
- Increase brand awareness and reach, as evidenced by agreed KPIs including increase in social media followers, website views, newsletter subscribers and media mentions
- Strengthen stakeholder trust and buy-in to our work, as evidenced by agreed KPIs including increase in engagement rates and call-to-action conversion rates
- Increase the reach of GiveOUT Day including to new audiences, as evidenced by increase in the number of individual donors on GiveOUT Day and 10-20% increase in total funds raised compared to 2023
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Marketing and Communications key responsibilities include:
1. Lead the development of creative, and integrated marketing and communication strategies and implementation plans
- Develop digitally savvy, creative, and integrated marketing and content strategies with the goals of growing brand awareness and stakeholder engagement, in line with agreed organisational objectives and KPIs
- Ensure consistent brand, voice and visual identity across all communications, in line with agreed brand voice and archetypes
2. Manage execution of marketing and communications strategy and plans across all channels, with some support from the Administrative Coordinator where appropriate
- Lead development of engaging and creative visual assets and content for all communication platforms including website, social media, eDM and other media, in line with content cadence KPIs
- Work effectively with external pro bono suppliers (e.g. visual designer, videographer, content editor) where required
- Effectively use communication tools and systems including Hootsuite, Canva, Mailchimp, Zapier/Loomly and SMS services
- Oversee digital advertising spend, in line with budget and donor conversion targets
- Oversee efficient and effective communications scheduling and processes
- Implement end-to-end eDM campaigns for whole mailing list, as well as tailored email journeys for GiveOUT Day audiences (participating organisations, champions and donors) and other segments as needed
- Lead media efforts including media pitching and handling media requests, with the CEO
- Support the production of engaging reports, resources, pitch decks and and other organisational documents where required
- Support efficient handover of execution of marketing and communications tasks to the Administrative Coordinator, where appropriate
3. Lead monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement of marketing and communication activities in line with agreed KPIs
- Lead Google Analytics, SEO and Google Ad Grants
- Monitor and evaluate performance against agreed KPIs (including subscribers and engagement rates) and adapt strategies based on the evidence of what works and what doesn’t work
4. Develop resources that help build the marketing capacity of the LGBTQIA+ sector
- Support GiveOUT Day participating LGBTQIA+ organisations to develop and execute their own GiveOUT Day marketing campaigns, including developing resources, templates and ready-to-use assets
- Support GiveOUT Day participating LGBTQIA+ organisations to achieve their fundraising targets
- Other initiatives to increase the capacity of LGBTQIA+ organisations to develop and implement their own marketing campaigns
ABOUT YOU
The Marketing and Communications Manager’s essential skills and competences include:
- Experience in planning and implementing marketing and communications campaigns, particularly B2C digital campaigns
- Engaging storytelling skills and interest in developing powerful content for a range of communication platforms and for different audiences
- Enthusiasm for working in a small team to deliver projects/campaigns on time
- Excellent writing, editing and formatting skills with proven ability to proofread
- Understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community and ability to work sensitively and inclusively with a range of LGBTQIA+ community members
- Ability to work independently, use initiative, organise work and manage time effectively
- Expertise with marketing and communication tools such as Mailchimp, Google Drive, Hootsuite, Canva, Google Ads, Google Analytics
- Experience in graphic design and creating visual assets for a range of channels and audiences
The Marketing and Communications Manager’s desired experience and competencies include:
- Experience in philanthropy, fundraising strategies and/or corporate communications
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, PR, journalism, marketing or equivalent
- Networks and experience in media
