Grampians disAbility Advocacy Association fights for the rights of people with disabilities. We work with our clients to help them achieve things like access to the NDIS and Disability Support Pension, access to health services, education and employment and inclusive involvement in the communities within which they live.

We need a dedicated advocate who is interested in supporting people with disability to achieve their personal goals; notably, in relation to access to the Disability Support Pension and the NDIS and to their rights within the NDIS.

This is an advocacy casework role not a disability support role. It's a locally-focused role within an organisation based in and responsive to regional Victoria. We are small but we are mighty.

Disability Advocacy is a process which involves:

• Assisting individuals or groups to identify and enact their advocacy needs, goals and strategies
• Collecting and providing information to people with disabilities regarding their rights and participation in community life
• Implementing agreed actions in a timely manner with genuine commitment to the human rights of the person or group
• Representing and/or assisting people with disabilities to voice their views, needs and expectations to disability service providers, mainstream community-based service providers, government statutory authorities and other bodies
• Providing assistance to individuals or groups to support their own advocacy efforts (self advocacy)
• Identifying and acting on trends and themes regarding disability rights, access and inclusion within communities and in society (systemic advocacy).
