Council’s Youth Services unit is seeking a qualified and experienced community services professional to lead the Youth Development portfolio and team within Hobsons Bay Youth Services.

About the Role:

The Team Leader Youth Development is responsible for overseeing the cohesive planning and delivery of programs, events and activities delivered by the Youth Development staff which includes events and activation, leadership and participation, health and wellbeing, and capacity building priorities. In addition, this role coordinates a local youth professionals’ network and has a focus on working with partners and stakeholders to build the capacity and empower others to engage effectively with young people.

This role directly supervises Youth Development Officers who are tasked with specific portfolios and involves a hands-on leadership style to ensure successful program delivery.

The Team Leader Youth Development is a senior position within the Youth Services team, the Community Life department and is encouraged to participate at an organisational level.

YOU ARE:

  • Tertiary qualified in an appropriate field and experienced in leadership role/s in the youth (or a similar) sector
  • A strong leader of people and have a well-developed approach to lead, develop and motivate staff (and others as appropriate such as students and volunteers), and manage relationships at an individual and team level
  • A great collaborator, with demonstrated experience in working with others to achieve shared goals
  • Experienced in working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that also requires a strong knowledge of policies, process es and boundaries
  • Familiar with the YACVic Code of Ethical Practice, Child Safe Standards, and the role of youth services in a local government context

YOU CAN:

  • Work flexibly, lead with a hands-on approach, and empower a team of professionals to establish an aligned workplan and build a strong team dynamic based around shared values and support
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the team and portfolio as well as contribute at a strategic/ leadership level to the development of Hobsons Bay Youth Services
  • Communicate effectively to a diverse range of audiences through strong written, digital and verbal skills
  • Engage and build purposeful relationships with stakeholders both internal and external, including coordinating a formal network of local youth service professionals

Please note that the position is primarily based on-site at Newport Community Hub, regularly at the Altona Civic Centre, and other locations across the municipality as required. Hybrid/ flexible working arrangements are available and will be discussed with the successful candidate.
