Council’s Youth Services unit is seeking suitably qualified and experienced, enthusiastic Youth Workers in a casual capacity to join our team to assist in delivering programs for young people across Hobsons Bay.

We are looking for:

Hobsons Bay Youth Services is looking for casual Youth Workers to support programs delivered to young people aged 12 to 25 years across Hobsons Bay. Casual Youth Workers will support staff in running drop-ins, recreation and art activities, school holiday programs and lots more. We seek casual Youth Workers who are flexible and able to deliver safe, meaningful, and engaging programs for and with young people. We expect that casual Youth Workers can build rapport and trust with young people, so they feel supported and safe. Child safety is at the forefront of your mind.

What you’ll be working on:

Supporting the delivery of programs for young people that are targeted, purposeful and engaging, such as:

  • Drop-ins: after-school programming delivered at venues across Hosbons Bay. Currently, this includes Newport, Altona, and Laverton, with other venues coming up later in the year.
  • Assisting with a variety of school holiday activities for 12-17 year olds, from art and craft, to tech to recreation.
  • Other projects and events such as Freeza gigs, skate events and youth groups or committees.

What you need to succeed:

  • Certificate IV or above in Youth Work / Community Development fields or lesser qualifications with some relevant experience.
  • Current Working with Children’s Check.
  • Current and valid full Victorian Driver’s Licence
  • First Aid with current CPR
  • Strong communication, flexibility and availability for work in “youth friendly” hours, such as weekday afternoons, weekends and during school holidays
  • Passion for working with young people
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding and application of the YACVic Code of Ethical Practice for youth workers, and familiarity with the Victorian Child Safe Standards
