ABOUT US

Helping Hands Mission Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation that runs six opportunity shops across Melbourne and rural Victoria, and provides emergency food and material aid support to Victorian families and individuals who are suffering as a result of extreme circumstance.

Delivery Services

With a strong and positive customer service focus, ensure the safe pickup and delivery of all donated goods for Helping Hands Mission Stores as directed by the Retail/Warehouse Supervisor. This will include loading/unloading items, determining suitability for collection and liaising and assisting store staff as required. Delivery of food parcels to vulnerable cohorts within the local community. Picking up food items from local suppliers and delivering to Helping Hands Mission Community Pantries.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • All pick-ups, deliveries, loading and unloading of truck contents is undertaken as directed and within appropriate timelines and in accordance with written or advised schedule.
  • Is able to identify items that are unsuitable for collection and communicate this in a friendly and positive manner to customers.
  • Daily pick-ups and deliveries of donations and food items to sites and pantries.
  • Preparation for daily deliveries by relocating SOLD items from showroom to customer locations or warehouse.
  • All goods handled safely and with care and evidence of strong support for Helping Hands Mission staff when moving between truck and stores.
  • Evidence of a caring and safe approach to any person (e.g. volunteers) assisting in vehicle with deliveries and ensures their compliance with all Helping Hands Mission policies and procedures.
  • Helping Hands Mission values and behaviours demonstrated in all work related activities.

Driving & Vehicle Maintenance

  • Operate the vehicle in a safe and effective manner in order to minimise the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life and ensure appropriate maintenance/service and cleanliness of vehicle.
  • Care and attention in transport methods to ensure the safe pick-up and delivery of all donated goods is evident.
  • Appropriate vehicle servicing occurs (as per service manual and Manager Instructions) and within Helping Hands Mission guidelines.
  • Timely communication to Manager on any areas of concern in relation to truck maintenance or repairs.
  • Ensure vehicle and equipment is safely and securely stored.
  • Maintenance of appropriate driving log books
  • Maintains vehicle in a clean and tidy condition at all times.

Customer Service

  • To support all store staff with various shop activities (as required) and undertake all driving duties in a friendly and positive manner, which contributes to providing a pleasant shopping experience for all customers.
  • Evidence that customers are informed if unable to meet agreed scheduled times via communication to administration staff.
  • In all activities evidence of a strong customer focus and commitment to quality service provision.
  • Minimal complaints received both internally and externally.

Team Support

  • Participates in team activities, attends staff meetings when scheduled and demonstrates a supportive approach to other staff members which contributes to the overall team effectiveness.
  • Evidence of strong relationships with other team members, which assists in building a cohesive workplace.

Occupational Health & Safety

  • To meet Occupational Health and Safety obligations in line with Helping Hands Mission Policy & Procedures & relevant legislation.
  • Appropriate behaviour is evidenced in day to day work activities which does not endanger oneself or fellow workers.
  • Strictly adheres to manual handling policies and procedures and general road rules and legislation at all times.
  • Participation in communication meetings and any organised OH&S training events.
  • No defective tools or equipment are used.
  • Reports all unsafe conditions, practices and hazards to the appropriate manager.

  • Ability to do heavy lifting in a fast-paced environment
  • This position requires physical demands with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull weights up to a certain limit, plus movements such as bending, squatting and reaching. The role requires the individual to be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity and exposure to dust and fumes.
  • Valid Vaccination Certificate
