What is a Direct Care Worker?

Hume's Direct Care Workers are client facing staff that provide a range of in home and community based support services to our community members that require some extra assistance. Clients might include:

• People with disabilities
• Elderly residents
• Families of residents with complex needs

Hume's Direct Care Workers provide domestic assistance, respite, and personal care in a respectful, flexible and client focussed manner. Direct Care Workers work with clients and their carers to achieve their identified goals, enhance independence and optimise quality of life.

A Direct Care Worker might engage in services that include:

• Domestic Assistance: house cleaning, laundry, changing bedlinen, and shopping assistance
• Personal Care: dressing, grooming and meal preparation (and other tasks which do not require the skills of a qualified nurse, such as showering)
• Respite Care: providing backstop support whilst the primary carer takes a break from their caring responsibilities. May also entail supporting people to connect with their community (home and community based) 
• Social support: Support for social activities in a community-based group setting

About You

This very flexible position is perfect for candidates looking to join or re-enter the workforce on a part time basis. Training will be provided to successful candidates to ensure they are fully able to succeed in the role.

Direct Care Workers are caring and community minded, with a genuine passion for people and a strong desire to help those in need. You will be a clear communicator and be able to manage your own time effectively. The most successful Direct Care Workers have a keen eye for detail and are able to manage themselves in both physically and emotionally demanding situations.

At Hume, our Direct Care Workers your key responsibilities/qualifications and skills determining the key selection criteria comprise of but not limited to:

• Certificate III in Individual Support (previously Home and Community Care or Aged Care)
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in the delivery of domestic assistance, personal care and respite care.
• Current Victorian Driver's Licence, valid Police Check and Working with Children Check (employee version) required for the position.

Why do we need you?

The Health and Community Wellbeing department at Hume is looking for Direct Care Workers to provide Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC PYP), Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) services and Home Care Package (HCP) Services to assist eligible clients.

We are seeking passionate and committed Direct Care Workers to join our Aged and Disability Services. As a Direct Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting Hume's older residents and younger people with a disability, assisting them to live active, engaged and independent lives. As a Direct Care Worker at Hume City Council, you will provide Personal Care, Domestic Assistance, Social Support and Respite Care.
