About the role

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Health Promotion Officer to join our friendly HP team. The role can be part-time 0.8 FTE or full-time, is ongoing and will work mainly from our Lilydale site.

Health promotion is a key component of the services provided by Inspiro, and is primarily supported by Department of Health funding stream.

Inspiro’s Integrated Health Promotion Plan (IHP) 2021 - 2025 provides strategic direction to the organisation, our partners and the community related to our priority areas.

The current Integrated Health Promotion plan has a majority focus on the following two priority areas:

  • Healthy Eating and
  • Active Living

The primary objective of the Health Promotion Officer position is to facilitate the provision of evidence-base health promotion practice, under the health promotion priority area of Active Living, with opportunities to facilitate project work under Healthy Eating and the Prevention of Violence Against Women.

Key responsibilities

The principal part of Inspiro’s philosophy has an emphasis on illness prevention, health promotion and early intervention strategies. The person will work within a team of dedicated professionals to provide high quality, multi-disciplinary health service to the community.

Health Promotion

  • Planning, implementing and evaluating the Active Living and other relevant strategies, as identified in Inspiro’s IHP plan
  • Participating in the development of health promotion priorities that reflect community needs and strategic directions of the organisation and regional priority areas
  • Strengthening strategic and collaborative relationships within and across the Shire of Yarra Ranges with local service providers and community groups relevant to the Active Living priority area
  • Identify and source suitable funding opportunities for health promotion strategies
  • Keep abreast of current policies and developments in health promotion and public health

Administration, information and reporting

  • Develop project plans consistent with the principles, goals and objectives of the Integrated Health Promotion plan and other policy directions
  • Prepare and present detailed, comprehensive reports, discussion papers and correspondence as required
  • Represent the organisation at meetings relevant to Active Living, from a health promotion perspective
  • Participate in team and service planning, health promotion activities, policy development and other project activities as required
  • Ensure Inspiro’s services are accessible, client focused, developed, delivered and evaluated in partnership with our diverse communities

Key Selection Criterion

  • A tertiary or post graduate qualification in Health Promotion, Public Health or related discipline
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion initiatives
  • Strong understanding of the social model of health, and the determinants of health and their impact on populations
  • Understanding of the principles and practices of Health Promotion within a community health setting
  • Experience in consumer, community and stakeholder engagement and partnership development
  • Demonstrated initiative, innovation and ability to contribute to the development of new health promotion initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with a range of key stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work both within a team environment as well as the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including capacity to utilise IT systems
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence and ability to drive a range of vehicles
  • Current Working with Children Check valid for employment purposes
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 including the booster and able to provide evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.

To be the successful candidate you must meet the position requirements as well as undertake a current Police Record Check and hold an Employee Working with Children Check.
