About the program

Jesuit Social Services Vaccination Outreach Program has been funded until June 2022 to increase uptake of vaccination and improve health education around vaccination specifically for youth engaged with justice, housing and homelessness and other youth specific programs. To be eligible, young people need to have had contact with the referring service, whether this is a formal or informal contact. We are also able to support siblings and extended families to access vaccination.

Outcomes

  • Increased number of young people from funded organisations who have received COVID-19 Vaccinations by 15 June 2022
  • Practical barriers for young people to access vaccinations are reduced, removed or navigated successfully
  • Improved health literacy in relation to COVID-19 vaccinations and related health systems amongst funded organisations’ young people
  • Strengthened partnerships between organisations, young people and their communities
  • Organisations have an improved understanding of young people’s reasons for vaccine hesitancy and barriers to vaccination amongst targeted cohorts, to inform future case work and behaviour change initiatives.

About the role

The Outreach Worker is part of a small team delivering targeted outreach weekdays and weekends in the afternoon and early evening. The role involves;

  • Engaging young people and their family
  • Discussing any concerns they may have around vaccination
  • Supporting with booking and transporting for vaccination (both 1st and 2nd dose)
  • Check-in with young people post vaccination
  • Supporting to set up My Gov/access vaccination certificate

One full-time position is available with competitive remuneration, plus salary packaging benefit, offered together with ongoing professional and career development.

Candidate Requirements

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working effectively with young people experiencing substance misuse, homelessness, mental health concerns, violent or aggressive behaviours and other complex problems that may result in offending behaviour
  • An understanding of the barriers to vaccination a young person might experience and knowledge and understanding of the benefits of vaccination
  • Capacity to work flexible hours including after hours and weekends, as rostered, in accordance with the hours of operation of the service.
