About Us & the Role

Jabiru Community Youth and Children's Services is a community based non-profit organisation committed to providing community services and support to children, young people and families.

Currently, within our Health and Well-being Hub Young People and Families team, we are looking for a passionate practitioner to take on the role of Youth Support Coordinator (YSC). The Youth Support Coordinator (YSC) role is for two (2) days per week totaling 12hrs a week commencing Monday 23rd January to Friday 8th December 2023 to be worked term by term.

The YSC program aims to support young people, with a priority for young people in Years 10 to 12, who are at risk of disengaging, or have already disengaged from education. Further information about the YSC role can be found here:

The role will work at Bracken Ridge State High School and their respective communities.

We are looking for a person with the following attributes / requirements

  • A strong understanding of working within the education sector and how to advocate for young people within this system.
  • A strong desire and passion to work with young people and where appropriate the significant others in young people’s lives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental youth work practice and high value of mutual and respectful relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of storytelling and narrative practice in working with at risk cohorts of young people and in advocating the relevance of developmental youth work to government bodies
  • Demonstrated social justice values and a willingness to listen to the diversity of experience of the young people and workers of the community, including those who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, those who come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and those who have a diversity of gender and or sexual identities.
  • A demonstrated ability to maintain and build upon linkages with key stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated ability to work both within a team and autonomously.
  • An approved Paid Blue Card
  • Bachelor degree (Human Services, Behavioural Science, Social Work, Psychology or equivalent)
  • Current driver’s license
