Senator Jacqui Lambie is a politician who bucks the trend of self-interest and is genuinely concentrated on delivering meaningful change for Tasmanians, veterans and the most vulnerable people in Australian society. She is also committed to calling out potential corruption and dishonesty in parliament. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to Jacqui’s efforts to change the discourse in Australian politics.
In the office of Senator Jacqui Lambie, this position is a permanent ongoing role, subject to a probationary contract period of three months. This employment is offered under the terms and conditions in accordance with the Members of Parliament (MoPS) Act and the Enterprise Agreement.
- Hours: 8:30am – 5:00pm | Some overtime required after hours and on the weekend, primarily for social media.
- Location: Based in the Burnie office, with travel sometimes required (detailed below).
- Salary: $50,956 - $68,482 (Electorate Officer A), plus negotiable allowance for overtime.
- Direct Supervisors: Media Adviser, Office Manager and Assistant Adviser
Description of Duties:
You will be working as part of a small team and will be required to provide support as needed to the rest of the office.
This will sometimes involve completing tasks as required that are not included in your description of duties’ which are listed below.
Social Media Management
- Run a live spreadsheet or equivalent that lists upcoming social media posts for approval by the Adviser team.
- Post approved content on Facebook four times daily.
- Post approved content at a rate to be negotiated on Instagram.
- Monitor existing posts for developing issues or concerning comments. And reply to 2-3 comments on each post.
- Provide regular summaries of the best and worst performing posts of the week, along with any themes developing from these regular reviews
- Work with the Assistant Adviser to convert social media supporters into volunteers, donors and subscribers
Content Creation
- Pitch ideas for regular content, i.e. #TassieTuesdays (a shared post of some nature in Tasmania, every Tuesday). And one off content to the Media Adviser and Assistant Adviser.
- Once the concept is approved, create infographics and other graphical content for circulation on social media channels.
- Obtain and cut together subtitled videos of the Senator’s speeches using video from Parl View.
Community Organising
- Undergo ongoing training in digital and grassroots organising
- Proactively identify novel new opportunities to communicate Jacqui’s parliamentary work to a local audience
- Work with the adviser team to recruit, train and organise key volunteers to create a team of volunteers and advocates around Tasmania.
- Lead the local community effort to link supporters with ways to contribute to the next election campaign, including doorknocking, letterboxing, phonebanking and providing front yard space for campaign signage.
Travel
- There will be travel around Tasmania to support the Senator as she moves around the state and to document her travels on social media.
- There will be travel around Australia to undergo communication and community organising training.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
These are not essential, we are happy to train the right candidate.
- Experience with basic video editing.
- Experience using Photoshop or Canva to create graphics.
- An understanding and interest in politics and the ability to write social media posts that represent the Senator’s positions in various policy areas.
