Who we are:

Laverton Community Education Centre (LCEC) is the education and teaching arm of Laverton Community Integrated Services (LCIS). LCIS is a local Not-for-Profit organisation operating under a Community Development Model and underpinned by Social Justice principles. LCIS is managed by a volunteer based Board of Management, representative of the Community and contributing the skills required for good governance.

Directly serving the communities of Laverton, Altona Meadows and the broader municipality of Hobsons Bay, LCIS offers Adult Community Education as a Registered Teaching Organisation; Integrated Child Care Services through the Laverton Community Children’s Centre and Community Service programs and activities through the Laverton Community Centre and Neighbourhood House.

It has delivered teaching and education services to the suburbs of Laverton, Altona Meadows and Altona since 1974.

Laverton Community Education Centre offers a friendly and supportive work environment that is close to public transport.

Teachers will have the opportunity to teach at the 12 Crown Street Laverton site and the Laverton Community HUB for 2-3 days a week. The successful applicant may be required to deliver programs at other LCEC locations.

The successful candidate will report directly to the SEE/AMEP coordinator and will be responsible for delivering accredited curriculum to SEE and AMEP clients and reporting outcomes. The teacher will be responsible for designing, planning and delivering client-based English lessons to students with a range of communication skills.

Ongoing course assessment, recording and reporting using the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) are also essential parts of the role. The position is covered by the terms of Neighbourhood House and Adult Community Education Centres Agreement 2016. See Schedule 3 Part D for pay rates for tutors and teachers.

Key Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications and qualities:

  • A three year undergraduate degree or equivalent and a post-graduate TESOL qualification in adult education or equivalent;
  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Teaching and Assessment;
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills;
  • High level of enthusiasm;
  • Ability to adapt/ contextualise classes according to client needs;
  • Ability to identify and report client issues;
  • Good planning and administrative skills.
