Laurel Place provides therapeutic intervention and support to persons of all ages and genders who have experienced sexual violence, as well as their non–offending parents/carers and support persons. Position

The primary focus of the position is to provide a range of both in-person and remote (e.g., telephone, video conference) trauma-informed therapeutic intervention and support to women and men, 12 years of age and older, and their non-offending carers/supporters, who have been affected by sexual violence. Both advertised positions are subject to the successful completion of a 6-month probationary period and ongoing funding.

Primary Duties will include:

  • Provide trauma-informed, therapeutic counselling and support as well as crisis intervention when required to women and men, aged 12 years and older, who have experienced recent or historical sexual assault.
  • Provide brief intervention and support to non-offending carers/supporters of people who have experienced sexual assault.
  • Provide culturally sensitive and appropriate therapeutic interventions and support to women and men, aged 12 years and older, who have experienced recent or historical sexual assault.
  • Conduct and complete comprehensive, trauma informed assessments, including risk and safety assessments and the use of appropriate assessment measures.
  • Develop and facilitate a range of therapeutic and educational group programs when required.
  • Provide information and resources to the clients about their service options and offer support to facilitate informed choices and decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for clients.
  • Promote community awareness of the issues relating to sexual violence and individuals’ experiences of violence in our community.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum of a four-year tertiary degree in social work, psychology or similar and experience in the field of sexual violence or similar.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the gendered nature of sexual violence and its impact at both an individual and societal level.
  • Demonstrated experience providing trauma informed therapeutic interventions and support to adults and their non-offending family members and carers/supporters.
  • Well-developed skills in assessment, case formulation and service planning including assessment of risk and safety and use of assessment measures relevant to women, men and young people 12 years and older who have experienced sexual violence.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing sensitive and appropriate therapeutic intervention to women, men and young people 12 years and older who have experienced sexual violence and their non-offending carers/supporters from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, and gender diverse people.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and co-facilitate a range of therapeutic and educational group programs including community education.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to establish collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
