About the Child, Youth and Family (CYF) Program

LWB delivers a range of services for children, young people and their families, throughout Australia. We use Cornell University’s Children and Residential Experience (CARE) model of practice to guide our work. Through ongoing training and support we use this model of practice to equip carers and staff to support children in a way that creates conditions for positive change.

About the role

As a House Manager you will lead and mentor a team of youth workers in providing purposeful, trauma informed care and support to children and young people with a trauma background and complex behaviours in a 24/7 residential setting.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership and people management experience, previous experience working with people who have significant trauma and complex behaviours, an understanding of trauma and its effects on children and young people as well as knowledge of the NDIS and funding packages.

This full time position is currently offered until 31 December 2021 and comes with a Tool of Trade vehicle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, support, and provide reflective supervision to a team of Residential Support Workers.
  • Be actively present in the home environment, and provide role modelling, coaching and mentoring for staff in applying the principles of the CARE model to all interactions with children and young people and families.
  • Model and support staff to apply the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) system to prevent, de-escalate and respond to crisis incidents involving children and young people.
  • Build professional, trusting relationships with children and young people through visible interest and active engagement.
  • Oversee and participate in the planning and implementation of purposeful activities and routines which support and increase the life skills of the children and young people in our care.
  • Manage the Intensive Therapeutic Care Home in accordance with the CARE model, legislation, relevant standards, LWB policies and procedures and funding body requirements.
  • Provide an environment free of abuse, harm and exploitation for people we support.

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or relevant Diploma
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading a team
  • Understanding in the co-ordination of a 24-hour residential services for vulnerable people.
  • Experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and disadvantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding and application of child development and of planning activities to support the learning of a broad range of life skills.
  • Commitment to complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Training and be assessed as TCI competent within the probationary period.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • A current driver’s licence.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
